Weekend on the Mediterranean in Rapallo, Genoa, Chiavari, Italy

There are some things I believe a typical tourist doesn't see and I also believe that Matt and I were very lucky to be a part of this weekend on the Ligurian Sea.  Our friends Steve and Ashley have a wonderful Landlord, Maura (a very sweet Italian) who invited us for the weekend to her boyfriend's home.  When we received the invitation Matt and I immediately felt honored and we realized what a once in a lifetime opportunity it would be to live the weekend in Italian style.  Maura was very patient with our very pathetic Italian while we are learning and she cooked us a traditional meal.  The Italians can eat a lot of food (probably because they climb up the side of a mountain to get to their houses) and they can cook!

First course was pasta

The final course was figs, cheese and breads
Matt's new nickname is the Fig Monster.  He tried figs for the first time and I think he ate a tree of figs over the weekend! ;-)
Second course was beef, peppers, potatoes and a lot of wine!

The second night we went to an Osteria in Chiavari and had multiple courses.  We started out with mussels, ravioli, pesto, and ended with steak.  Then we had mini cakes and gelato for the finale! I am so glad I have been doing all of the hiking and biking lately!
